7-Minute Photoshoots at Pome

September 7, 2008

After 6 long, hairy, messy months, I finally had the chance to visit my stylist, Shai Dhali at Pome Studio.

Shai helped me realize my dream of a 70s-inspired cut with a modern edge.  She also offers 7-Minute Photoshoots starting at $30.  Well worth it!

I surprised my husband with a trip to the Vancouver Aquarium on Labour Day.  Such inspiring colours and textures can be found in the sea!  My favorite “exhibit” was the Coasts of BC.  I saw some of the starfish we had spotted on Malaspina Strait last weekend.

Camping Virgin

August 25, 2008

I just returned from a 4-day, 3-night camping extravaganza with my mister and in-laws.  They are seasoned veterans.  My idea of camping is sleeping in a tent in someone’s backyard.  They sure did school me!  Pit toilets, baked beans (mmm!), and a water jug:  I survived.  I might even go again!

My Winnipeg

My Winnipeg

I spent 4 days in July re-exploring the city where I grew up. It was a bit of a shocker, as I hadn’t been in Winnipeg for 10 years and I left the city almost 20 years ago.

I wanted to see if all those places I remember from being a kid would still thrill me and scare me and interest me.

I hope to have an Etsy shop update in early August.  I’m off to marvel at some architectural history and immerse myself in Canadian history until next week.

Thrift Day

July 26, 2008

  • I came across a garage sale this afternoon and found this old plastic button amongst the piles.
  • The MADE IN CANADA stamp will come in handy for tags for Young Pop Sophisticate Designs.
  • I am always on the lookout for matryoshkas, and she really caught me eye with her bright colours.
  • The beautiful enamel bowl was sitting on a table at the garage sale this afternoon.  I was drawn to it and knew it was special.  Sure enough, the Finel mark was on the bottom, cementing my suspicions.  I knew it was old.  All I know about Finel/Arabia is that they manufactured in Finland between the 1950s and 1970s.  This is definitely not a 1970s version, as most of their product were printed with images.  No matter, I still love it.
